It was Horrible. Steering got squirrelly, over the handlebars, face-plant.
Yes - he was wearing a helmet and I shudder to think of the outcome if he wasn't. Looking at the damage to his skid-lid then visualizing that energy being transferred into his small skull I realize how lucky we were and how much worse it could have been. The small scuff over his left eye and the barely discernible bruise hidden by his hairline over the right show where the helmet absorbed the majority of the blow.
Dad mops up bloody nose and carries him home. Mom lavishes with hugs and kisses. Ice cream for dinner.
Wear your safety gear kiddos. Nothing wussy about it.
